Nature Poem
Wild Song: Poems of the Natural World by John Daniel, Poetry - as beautifully and variously demonstrated in Wild Song - can bring us closer to the natural world in all its grit and glory. Along with a scientific understanding of nature, we need just as crucially - more crucially, perhaps - a revived imaginal awareness, a knowledge based in heart and body. The diverse poems in this collection, most of them first published in Wilderness magazine, offer visions of the wildness within and around us all the time, even in the places we have altered most. Gathered here are eighty-three poems by eminent poets and emerging talents, highlighted by Deborah Randolph Wildman's evocative illustrations. These poems decry ecological injuries, celebrate nature's beauties, point to its many mysteries, and bear witness to our ever-available opportunity to recognize ourselves as rightful members of the evolutionary flow of earthly life.
Nature: Poems Old and New by May Swenson, The first major gathering of May Swenson's poems in a decade, this posthumous collection concentrates on her nature poems. Drawn from nearly fifty years of her work, Naturecontains 182 poems, many never before published. With Elizabeth Bishop and Marianne Moore, May Swenson ranks among the foremost poets of this century. All who love nature and poety will relish this work.
The Husband's Message - The Husband's Message is an Anglo-Saxon poem from the Exeter Book, which is often read as a companion piece to The Wife's Lament. Spoken by what appears to be the message itself, carved upon a stave, the poem may well be riddlic in nature, as is indicated by the runic clues at the end of the piece. There Will Come Soft Rains - There Will Come Soft Rains is a short 12-line poem by Sara Teasdale written in 1920. The poem deals with nature reclaiming the earth after the disappearance of the human race, and the small overall impact humanity left on the planet. The Kingis Quair - Most likely written by James I of Scotland, The Kingis Quair is a long poem in Middle Scots that is roughly a romance in genre. It is semi-autobiographical in nature, beginning with the King's capture by the English in 1406 on his way to France and his subsequent imprisonment by Henry IV of England in Windsor Castle. Adamastor - Adamastor (in Greek "imitative rival of Adam") was used by the Portuguese poet LuÃs de Camões in his epic poem Os LusÃadas, as a symbol of the forces of nature Portuguese navigators had to overcome during their discoveries. Camões gave his creation a history as one of the Gigantes of Greek mythology who had been spurned by Thetis, now appearing in the form of a threatening stormcloud to Vasco da Gama and threatening ruin to anyone hardy enough to ...
